1. Rainbow bright

Accentuate the positives this year by making your tree the brightest on the block. Think bold colours, multi-coloured baubles, rainbow tinsel, bunting and streamers. This theme is all about having fun, so you can go as camp and clashy as you like, with bold brights and plenty of glitter and sequins. You could also opt for some toy-inspired decorations to give your rainbow tree a playful edge. Take a look at Liberty London for some classy inspiration.

2. Eco wonder

Sustainable decorations have been popular for a number of years and this year will be no exception. But planet-friendly doesn’t need to be plain. Choose muted beige and creams as your colour scheme, and style your tree with paper stars, wooden cut-outs and decorations made from recycled materials. Dried flowers can also make a lovely addition and add a touch of muted colour too. Check out Etsy for local, handmade decorations or if you fancy a go yourself, treat yourself to one of our baubles to decorate at home.

3. Bird garden

Why not build your theme around feathered friends? Robins are always popular, but you can also expand this theme and go wild with peacocks and parrots, turning your tree into a magical menagerie that kids and grown-ups will both love. Cute owls in particular are set to be big this year.

4. Blue, white and metallics

We love a good colour-coordinated tree and this colour scheme is an absolute classic. Blue and white shades contrast beautifully with green fir branches, especially against lighter-coloured walls and furnishings. Keep it simple and classic or use hints of silver, gold or mother of pearl to add warmth and sparkle. And for something a little different, these fun sapphire gin baubles can add a cheeky hint of personality.

5. Pretty pastels

We don’t always associate Christmas with more muted colours, but this year pastels are in. Baby blues, corals and turquoise can all work surprisingly well, such as these lovely flock baubles from Dunelm. Complement soft pastel shades with lighter materials such as pom poms, feathers and felt.
